Snow Crash BBS
About the Board

Old protocol. New neon.

Snow Crash BBS is a love letter to the boards of the late '80s and '90s — Renegade-era menus and ANSI art — rebuilt from the ground up with a cyberpunk edge.

What is a BBS?

Before the web, people dialed into each other's computers. A bulletin board system was one machine, one SysOp, and a handful of phone lines: you'd call in, read the message bases, grab some files, play a door game, and log off so the next caller could get through.

Snow Crash BBS keeps that shape. Phone lines became telnet and WebSockets, but it's still one board, run by one SysOp, with a community that shows up on purpose.

Why Snow Crash?

The board takes its name and its mood from the novel that imagined the Metaverse: a neon-soaked virtual Street where hackers, couriers and avatars all cross paths. That's the energy here — an online place that feels like a place.

It's also why the board is building its own Metaverse: a persistent text world you can walk around in with other callers.

SYSOP //

A Word from Hiro

Welcome to the board. I built Snow Crash BBS because I missed the feeling of calling a place — somewhere with its own look, its own regulars and its own late-night conversations. Every screen, menu and door here was put together by hand.

Pull up a terminal, make yourself a handle, and say hello in the main message base. If something breaks, tell me. If something's great, tell everyone.

— Hiro, SysOp

RULES //

The Rules

  1. One account per person. Pick a handle and stick with it. Alt accounts used to farm door turns will be removed.
  2. Be decent. Argue ideas, not people. No harassment, threats, hate speech or doxxing — of callers or anyone else.
  3. Keep it legal. No pirated software, illegal content or anything that puts the board at risk. Abandonware talk is fine; uploads of commercial warez are not.
  4. Stay on topic. Post in the message base that fits. Off-topic threads live in the general base.
  5. No spam, no ads. Announcing your own board in the BBS-ads area is welcome. Selling things elsewhere is not.
  6. Play fair in the doors. No exploiting bugs, scripting turns or coordinating with alts. Found a bug? Report it and you'll get credit.
  7. Mind the nodes. Don't idle on a node for hours during busy times. Inactive sessions may time out.
  8. The SysOp's word is final. Accounts that break these rules may be warned, restricted or deleted.

Privacy
